Why did William win the Battle of Hastings

William was a better leader.

  • William had planned before the battle and was well prepared.
  • William was a better general than Harold and had more experience of war.
  • Williams men were well armed and trained.
  • William made sure that he had good supplies of clothes, food and other equiptment for his army.
  • William's troops had tricked Harolds army by pretending to run away.

Harold wasn't a very good leader

  • Harold didn't rest his troops inbetween the two battles.
  • Harold didn't stop in London to get more supplies.
  • Most of Harolds men were killed at Stamford Bridge and didn't go to London to get other men.
  • Harolds troops were to spread out.
  • Harold was over confident fom the last battle at stamford bridge.
Unlucky

  • Harold was having to fight 2 enemies at the same time.
  • The two enemies came from opposite ends so Harold had a long walk(300miles away.)
  • The wind changed direction.
